My Cars Updates:

2008 Cadillac DTS

Based on U.S. News editors' analysis of 50 leading automotive reviews and test drives, the 2008 Cadillac DTS ranks #6 of 12 in Luxury Large Cars.

The DTS delivers classic V8 power, a spacious interior, a smooth ride, and ample cargo space. However, it only has a 4-speed transmission, and it lacks a number of advanced safety features that buyers in this class have begun to expect. Buyers considering the DTS may want to also consider the 2008 Lincoln Town Car, or the slightly smaller but impressive 2008 BMW 5-Series and 2008 Mercedes E-Class vehicles.

Reviewers agree the 2008 Cadillac DTS offers a comfortable ride, ample space, enough power for passing, adequate safety and timeless tradition with contemporary touches. U.S. News' own Rick Newman calls the DTS "Hot, for those who love flair", while Forbes adds "you feel like you are in command of the world and riding in style." BusinessWeek observes "The Cadillac DTS offers a smooth ride and well-appointed retro interior, with high-tech but easy to use controls and gizmos."

Auto writers had conflicting reviews about the value of the DTS, because it's less expensive than other sedans in its class but available options can quickly add to the price. IntelliChoice awarded the 2007 Cadillac DTS a 2007 Best in Class award for "Smart Choice Maintenance Costs" in the Luxury Class. Though BusinessWeek reports that the starting price of the DTS is "modest," Car and Driver brings a different perspective, noting that their test car (with options) was a "wallet-busting $56,930."

Also factoring into the value equation is fuel economy. The DTS manages the lowest combined MPG in its class.

IntelliChoice gives the 2008 DTS an "Above Average" value rating for its predicted five-year cost of ownership compared to other vehicles in its class.

2008 will be the end of the road for this car. GM has cancelled the 2009 version, which may make the DTS more affordable as the model year ends.

For 2008, the DTS gets a new Platinum Edition Package, available on the Performance trim. The Platinum Edition Package features a different exterior and interior trim, with an available DVD entertainment system with screens in the front seat headrests.
